Beijing hotels slash rates after expected Olympic demand falters(衰退、衰落、疲软) 北京「滞租」酒店割价抢客迎奥运
Hotels in Beijing are slashing ( 削 減 ) room rates for next month's Olympics after tighter security -- among other measures(除了別的措施以外) -- dashed 使(计划等)失败、使(希望等)破灭、使沮丧 an expected windfall(意外的收入、横财) of visitors, hotels and travel industry executives said yesterday.
Fan Runjun, an employee of the press department of popular travel Web site Ctrip.com, said many two- to four-star hotels have reduced prices by 10 per cent to 20 percent compared with May and June. Some have slashed rates by as much as 30 per cent, said Fan, whose site lists about 500 hotels in its English-language section.
The usual pre-Olympic festive ( 歡樂的,歡鬧的) atmosphere host cities experience has not hit Beijing yet, with some hotels feeling empty(空虚的、无聊的) and listless(無精打采的,倦怠的;百無聊賴的). In June, the number of visitors to Beijing, including overseas and domestic, declined by 19.9 per cent from a year earlier, according to the Beijing Tourism Authority.
