(Sowing Seeds of Wisdom)
There is no greater joy and consolation for dedicated,overworked and under-valued teachers than to be loved and remembered by their students.
Over the years I have received scores of greeting cards from former students,which all express similar sentiments:“To my dear teacher,with love and gratitude,for all you taught me.”
But this year,I received a card with a unique message.It said,“The best teacher is the one who makes her students wiser.Happy New Year.”
I was impressed,touched,and intrigued(好奇的).What had I done to make my students wise or wiser?
As for me,I console myself that over the years I have not wasted my time in China.
我所撒下的智慧的种子,虽然有一些误落路旁而半途而废,或落在布满石块的土地上,很少或根本不开花结果;
While some of the seeds of wisdom I sowed have fallen by the wayside,or on stony ground,to bear little or no fruit,
most of the seeds have “fallen on good ground and brought forth fruit,some a hundred-fold,some sixty-fold,some thirty-fold.”
What more could a teacher ask for?
